Celebrating 14 Years of Hospitality in Cali! - Spiwak Hotels

On October 15, 2010, Spiwak Hotels embarked on a journey that would transform the hotel market in Cali, Colombia. As we approach this important milestone, we take a moment to reflect on the path we’ve traveled, the values we uphold, and the culture of hospitality we continue to build in the heart of the Sultana del Valle.




The story of Spiwak Hotels is one of resilience and perseverance. Nahoum Spiwak, father of our president, Mr. Ángel Spiwak, survived the horrors of the Holodomor in Soviet Ukraine, where he tragically lost his parents during the famine of 1932-1933. After a long journey, he found a new home in Colombia, settling in the Valle del Cauca where he met Gutta Knorpel, a Polish immigrant who would become his wife. Together, they started a business in manufacturing bags and later expanded into residential construction.

Although Nahoum didn’t live to see the evolution of the family business into the hotel industry, his wife and sons, Boris and Ángel, carried on his legacy, opening their first hotel in 1968 and later expanding to other cities. In the 1990s, Ángel expanded the family business into Venezuela, before returning to Cali due to changing circumstances in the neighboring country, to continue growing the brand in the city where his parents’ story began.

On October 15, 2010, Spiwak Chipichape Hotel opened its doors in the bustling heart of Cali’s northern district. The hotel quickly became known as a premium choice for both business and leisure travelers. With its sustainable architecture and open spaces designed to catch the cool breezes from the nearby Farallones de Cali mountains, Spiwak Chipichape set a new standard for hotels in Cali.

Strategically located within the renowned Chipichape Mall, and featuring classic Danish interior design, a pool, gym, restaurant, and a variety of exclusive facilities, the hotel became the best choice for tourists looking for both comfort and luxury, with the added convenience of nearby commercial services.

Building on the success of Spiwak Chipichape Hotel, the Spiwak family expanded their vision in 2019 with the opening of Spirito by Spiwak. This second property was designed to cater to a younger and more vibrant clientele, while maintaining the high standards of quality and service for which Spiwak Hotels had become known.

With its industrial chic design, Spirito by Spiwak offers a refreshing and modern alternative for guests seeking a more dynamic and youthful atmosphere. The hotel’s rooftop pool, its organic vibe, and lively urban aesthetic have received international praise, including a second-place award at the prestigious 2021 Cemex Awards for its eco-friendly design and commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Additionally, we support several culinary festivals, helping to preserve and promote Colombian culinary traditions while introducing our guests to flavors from around the world.
